using a hotbox and/or reclaimer

I am a sealcoater who is trying to break in to the asphalt repair “game” and am considering purchasing hot box or a reclaimer with an infrared heater. Before purchasing one of these I am trying to do my homework and I have been talking to a few asphalt plants in the area. My problem is, when I have talked to them about using a hot box or the like, they make it sound like it will not work or that it would be to small of a “target”, as they drop asphalt from an elevated hopper (as is probably standard procedure). They have even balked at putting asphalt into a 1 ton dump. I don’t want to buy this equipment if I cant use it. I could imagine if cold millings are being used, they would be loaded by a bobcat or something, which would be a diff. story, but as far as hot mix i’m not sure if they are just unfamiliar with the equipment or what. Help!

I am a contractor looking to provide IR services to my area and in doing research and left with 1 big question. I am not sure what I should be looking for in a rejuvinator. It is always discussed as if it a given but I am hoping for something more specific is what I would be looking to purchase. Any ideas or even brands that I should be looking for would me very appreciated.

I wanted to purchase an ifrared unit. I was leaning towards an asphalt radiant blue unit. Are these units prone to burning the asphalt. I was told any unit can burn the asphalt if left on to long. Thanks!

I have a big contract that is in jepordy if I can’t figure this out
Does anyone have and ideas that might help me
IR as a suppliment or part of a larger operation?

What are most doing, IR as the primary operation or as a suppliment to a conventional operatiion?
What type of businesses do you suppliment-if you do?
I see a lot of company adds in the states where IR is tied to a seal coating operation. Do you find-even in the states where IR is far more previlent-that it has to be a secondary operation?

Does Infrared repair leave a seam?

Hello, I am new to the business and have a question. I’ve never done infrared before but I hear it is quite nice. Can you tell me if when you repair a pot hole with infrared if it will leave a seam? If not, is that the big selling point? Is it a fast process? Thanks. Sorry for the basic questions.

Any Canadian Contractors using IR?

Any Canadian contractors out there. If so, what equipment are you using and how do you find it? This is my first year & I have a small HDE heater/reclaimer package. Work was steady in the spring, died out through June/July and is picking up again now (Aug)-I figured this would be the case so am not surprised but wonder what if any types of work others are doing and how they find their equipment working out. So far I’ve been very satisfied with what I bought. Are you having trouble convincing people that this technology is better than conventional in many cases?
Regards.

I’m suprised that there hasn’t been a little more action on the site! I didn’t mean to scare you guys off with my first post!! There are a lot of positive things about infrared, but wintertime operation dosn’t happen to be one of them. LOL On the bright side———You guys who do parking lots, and large jobs, the infrared is a diamond in your pocket. I have taken a lot of work from compeditors by being able to do infrared repairs on small areas of a large pavement. You might be overlooking a great sales tool, as well as moneymaker. I have sold many five figure jobs that the determining factor was a five hundred dollar infrared repair! Think about it
